Teens on Tik Tok say dark under-eye circles are cool

Kids these days, ammirite?? If you’re not on Tik Tok, this may come as a shock to you, but these weird, wonderful beauty trends are absolutely exploding.

So, if you’re a woman over the age of, let’s say, 25, it’s likely you’ve spent hundreds of dollars over the course of your adult life trying to hide those blasted dark under-eye circles. Concealer, retinol, various eye ointments and salves that promise brighter, just-got-my-full-eight-hours-sleep look.

But the Tik Tok generation has other ideas, calling eye bags “cool” and are even DRAWING THEM IN with lipstick pencils and eyebrow pens.

“I basically wanted to show everyone how ‘cool’ dark circles can look,” 19-year-old Sara Carstens told Insider, the youngster that sent the trend viral.

“Sometimes, it can be beautiful,” plus, “we’re Gen Z. We’re all tired and have bad sleeping schedules,” she later told the New York Times.

The video of her drawing in dark circles has been viewed a whopping seven million times since it was posted. There was praise, but there was also criticism, which she addressed in a later Tik Tok post.

“As you can probably tell I have them myself naturally and I’ve been struggling with them for years […] Personally this has always been a big insecurity but I’m starting to see the beauty in them,” she said.

“And whether yours are worse than mine, are more poofy, or more wrinkled, they’re beautiful and they should be normalized.”
