Save your fried hair with this Olaplex ‘dupe’

Aldi have re-released their buzz-worthy Kairplex Olaplex ‘dupe’ and we’re ready to fix our lack-luster strands.

“Blonder!” We scream in unison with our hairdresser as they go ham with the bleach like an artist devouring a blank canvas. Who cares about the damage, your sun-kissed strands will be worth it, right?

Well if you’ve ever got home with a new do only to find your hair is totally fried, you should probably A) fire your hairdresser and B) reach for the Olaplex.

If you’re not aware, Olaplex is the hair-bonding product that supposedly re-links broken hair bonds increasing its strength, shine and quality. And it’ll set you back a cool $150 for the take home set.

It’s been celebrated by so many celebrities including Drew Barrymore, Emma Stone and Kim Kardashian – so they must be on to something.

Enter our favourite German discount supermarket, Aldi, and their much-loved Special Buys sales. The company has just released a dupe for the Olaplex Take Home Kit, and we’re sure as heck ready to give it a go because it comes in at a teensy $20.

The Kairplex product comes in a three stage at-home process that you apply in order to get your hair in tip-top condition:

  1. Intensive repair treatment
  2. Maintenance shampoo
  3. Maintenance conditioner

Aldi’s ‘salon-inspired’ formula is touted to have ‘Plex technology’, repair and strengthen hair bonds, maintain colour and vibrancy and protect from further damage.

It is important to note that one of the main active ingredients in Olaplex is Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate. This is the ingredient in charge of reconnecting the broken bonds for stronger, healthier hair and it’s patented by the brand, so you won’t find it anywhere else.

However, there are a range of other ingredients within Olaplex that have been included in other brand’s formulas, including maleic acid which was the battleground for a famed dispute between the startup and hair care giant L’Oreal.

While we can’t be sure how similar the Aldi version really is chemically, the reviews have been pretty stellar.

One reviewer wrote that “KAIRPLEX is definitely a comparable to the similar salon product you get at hairdressers.”

Also in the Aldi beauty sales this week is a La Prairie dupe, which is in high demand given that brand is one of the most expensive on the market.

That’s enough to sell us. Special Buys, here we come.
