Model, Indigenous rights advocate, ModelCo ambassador and proud Awabakal woman, Charlee Fraser talks about her alternating clean beauty routine, her ability to fall asleep easily, and her sweet treat of choice.
Hello and welcome to our new editorial series Bedtime Beauty Stories. It’s a space for talented individuals to share how they get ready for slumber, including ways to wind down, nighttime beauty rituals and go-to remedies for falling asleep. We catch up with two of Australia’s most in-demand skin experts, Jocelyn Petroni, natural beauty enthusiast Clare McGrowdie, Skinfluencer Hannah English and skin scientist Dr Michele Squire.
Charlee Fraser is of Australia’s most in-demand models right now, having walked for major international fashion designers the world over, as well as landing some plum ambassador roles for big brands – including local beauty giant ModelCo.
As one of the faces of ModelCo’s current Tested On Role Models – Not Animals campaign alongside other inspiring women, including Body+Soul cover star Agi Akur, Matilda Dods, Astrid Holler and Cameron Stephens, Charlee is keen to use her good looks – and her platform as an advocate for Indigenous Australians – for causes that resonate with her.
From relaxing with candles to switching up her skincare routine to suit the condition of her skin, we got the down-low on what she does before bed. And Charlee’s end-of-day routine? Well, it’s surprisingly relatable.

What’s the first thing you do to wind down before bed?
I love watching YouTube videos or an episode of whatever documentary series I’m currently watching. It’s become a ritual regardless of how late I slide into bed, it really relaxes me!
And the last thing you do before you go to sleep?
Blow out the candles…
Talk us through your nighttime beauty routine…
Depending on the condition of my skin, time of year or how I’m feeling I switch a lot between products and order of application. I’m currently cleansing and exfoliating in the shower and once dry I apply a serum followed by a few drops of oil and a light moisturiser.
The products that I LOVE switching between include; Emma Lewisham’s Illuminating Oil Cleanser and Emma Lewisham’s Illuminating Exfoliant AHA/BHA, with her Skin Reset Correcting Serum, Supernatural Triple Vitamin A+ Face Oil and night cream.
[I also love using the] MV Skin Therapy Native Power Serum, 9 Oil Radiance Tonic and Pure Jojoba Oil with their Rose Hydrating Mist. LUME Illumination Mask is my favourite mask! I also love Grown Alchemist Gentle Gel Facial Cleanser and their Detox Serum.
Do you take any supplements or sleep-aids?
What do you sleep on?
An alarming number of pillows [laughs].
What’s your stance on technology before bed?
I set my alarm and do my last email and a final social media check, before I wind down by watching an episode [of TV], once that episode is finished, it’s lights out!
Do you have a preferred or go-to late-night snack?
It’s VERY rare for me to snack before bed and I’ve NEVER woken up during the night and eaten food (isn’t that crazy?) but after dinner, if I’m craving something sweet, I always lean towards chocolate, specifically anything involving caramel.
What time do you usually hop into bed?
9 o’clock solid, but I won’t sleep until 10pm. I generally wake up early so I don’t stay up late too often.
What do you do if you can’t drift off or have trouble sleeping – do you have a go-to fix?
I have sleeping superpowers! I’m extremely fortunate to be able to sleep as well as I do. If for some reason I’m finding it difficult I pop on another episode and hope for the best.
