I had a dream that someday I could get rid of fly, fly aways.
Hang on, no that’s a Tones and I song (or something like it).
Seriously though, when it comes to styling your hair at home, is there anything more frustrating than flyaways? Those tiny stubborn hairs that stick up along your part in defiance, just mocking all the effort you put in to blow drying your hair, standing up like a mini mohawk that glistens in the sun? Its infuriating, and hair spray only seems to make them stronger and more stubborn.
It really blows.
But now global technology leaders Dyson have a solution, unveiling a revolutionary and game-changing new hair tool for its iconic Supersonic hairdryer – a dedicated flyaway attachment compatible with existing machines and available to purchase separately – that tames stray strands without extreme heat to give a salon smooth finish.
The first of its kind attachment – that almost looks like a hook – uses the Coanda effect (an aerodynamic phenomenon far too techy for us to try and explain here) to attract and lift longer hairs to the front, whilst pushing flyaways through the hair and out of sight and gone for good.

You want to know the best news? Anyone who already owns a Supersonic hair dryer can buy it separately so you don’t need to shell out for a whole new blower.
The Flyaway attachment is fully compatible with existing models of the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer and will be available both individually, priced at AU$99, and within the box of new machines purchased from 5 August, with an RRP of AU$599.
Jen Atkin, Dyson Global Styling Ambassador – hailed by the New York Times as “the most influential hair stylist in the world” – says the trick to tame annoying flyaways is a core skill for a stylist, but something that’s almost impossible for us mere mortals to replicate on our own at home.
“Dyson’s latest attachment does exactly that,” she says of the attachment’s ability to replicate a glossy, flyaway-free result. “It allows smooth seekers to get a super sleek finish, on their own, not just from the salon.”
Added Renya Xydis, Dyson Styling Ambassador in Australia: “The Dyson Supersonic Flyaway attachment is my new secret weapon to tame those annoying flyaways. Unlike some conventional attachments, you control the tool, it doesn’t control you! The engineering behind the Coanda effect makes it so much easier to achieve salon standard smoothness. You’ll look like you’ve stepped out of the salon from the ease of your bathroom – yet another game changer from Dyson.”
Dyson engineers gathered in excess of 1.14 billion individual pieces of professional styling data, captured from over 10,000 hours of professional stylist trials, observing more than 420 stylists across 80 salons around the world to create the new attachment.
It was released in the UK earlier this year and was so popular it sold out in less than two days. You can purchase the new attachment here. Flyaways be gone!
