Korean skincare brand Jelly Ko have released the world’s first bubble tea face cream, so Juna Xu put it to the test. Here’s what happened to her skin after a week of using it.
Bubble tea has become quite the phenomenon over the past few years, gaining a cult-like following.
One sip of the creamy, sweet milk-tea flavoured drink with floating bursts of tapioca pearls and you’ll see why people claim to be addicted to the liquid.
Unfortunately, the drink’s high sugar content isn’t the best for your skin or waistline and it’s definitely a ‘treat’ drink that should only be consumed every once in a while.
But what happens if you extract all the benefits of bubble tea and make it into a face cream that actually works – and you can use every single day?
That’s exactly what K-beauty brand Jelly Ko decided to do, and have now launched the world’s first bubble tea skincare.

The Bubble Tea Steam Cream ($48, STYLE STORY) combines proven Korean skincare technology with power ingredients Niacinamide (touted to help manage acne, rosacea, pigmentation and wrinkles), Vitamin E (has moisturising and healing benefits), Adenosine (energises the skin’s surface so it looks smoother), Beta Glucan (works to soothe and calm irritated skin while also plumping fine lines) and Pearl (exfoliates the skin’s surface, alleviates acne and hydrates).
Surprisingly, the cream is also free from sulfates, mineral oils, parabens, PEGs and EDTA, making it perfect for sensitive skin.
Experience using it: The cream mimics the exact colour of bubble tea and has a sweet candy-like scent that’s not overpowering. The consistency is a little bit thicker than normal creams, but absorbs quickly into the skin.
My skin also didn’t feel clogged or heavy after applying the cream on top of an essence and other serums.
Positives: After a week of consistently using the Bubble Tea Steam Cream in the mornings and evenings, my skin is considerably smoother and has that glowing, K-beauty “glass” effect, so much so that several family members and friends have even commented on how radiant my skin looks.
I also have extremely sensitive skin and didn’t experience a reaction, which is extremely rare for me.
While the tub of cream may look quite petite, I found the tinniest amount goes a long way, so one tub will last you a few months. Plus, compared to other hydrating creams on the market, the price is extremely reasonable.
Negatives: To be really honest, my experience with using Jelly Ko’s Bubble Tea Steam Cream has been extremely positive so I can’t actually pinpoint one downside. Literally. You could almost say the proof is in the… tea (?).
Overall opinion: I would highly recommend the Bubble Tea Steam Cream. Using this cream in the mornings and evenings, combined with a healthy diet rich in skin-loving foods and a regular exercise regimen, has given me the best skin I’ve had all year round. And let’s be honest, we’ve all struggled with skin problems this year so fingers crossed it works for you, too.
