Elle Ferguson knows her skin isn’t perfect

We all go through skin issues at some point, from acne to sensitivity but it’s important to know you’re not alone. Recently, Elyse Knowles opened up to body+soul exclusively about her ongoing skincare journey and now, in the wake of Elle Ferguson’s E! People’s Choice Awards Australian Social Star of the Year nomination – yep you can vote for her here , the entrepreneur and beauty buff is sharing hers…

On beating breakouts:

“I’ve realised that my skin is not perfect, and I look better with self-tan on. I have hormonal breakouts like many women, but I have found that knowing how to manage them is your best plan,” explains the 34-year-old. “I love a black mud mask to draw out any impurities, I probably do one of these at night twice a month – I sometimes sleep in it. The best one I have found is Black Pelan Mud Mask ($69, at Venustus) For spots, I love the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion ($26, at Mecca). I put this on the spot and let it work its magic.”

On the gut-skin connection:

“Gut health is HUGE when you want your skin to glow. I believe it has a huge impact on your overall complexion [so I take] the The Beauty Chef Glow Inner Beauty Powder ($65, at The Beauty Chef) it’s the best. Six months ago my partner and I gave up meat, it has done wonders for my skin. Also, I don’t do dairy, I saw an iridologist when I was 18 who said I shouldn’t be eating dairy and that it would affect my skin, so from then on I haven’t eaten it.”

On budget buys:

“My favourite supermarket item is an Olay sheet mask, I just travelled overseas with them and they were so good and I just bought them from Coles. I also love to go swimming in the ocean and rub the sand all over my face and body, there’s nothing like a natural sea salt scrub. If you see me in the water at Bondi doing this just nod and smile.”

On the product that changed her skin:

“The Olay Regenerist Advanced Anti-Ageing Micro Sculpting Face Cream ($29.99, at Chemist Warehouse) is changing my skin over time. I have been committed to using for nearly a year and I’ve seen my skin’s surface improve. I love that it energises the skin. Just like I am focusing on exercise for my body, I feel like this cream is waking up my skin and giving me a younger, brighter complexion.”

On stuff other than skincare:

“Acupuncture has really help me relax and sleep, I think a full night’s sleep is what we all need and sometimes it’s just really hard to switch off. I’m also into cryotherapy and infrared saunas .The extremes really kick your body and skin into gear. Also, lymphatic massages, I’m trailing one on my face next week so stay tuned.”
