In this week’s beauty-themed Healthy-ish Podcast episode host Felicity Harley takes a perv inside Beauty Editor Kelsey Ferencak’s bathroom cabinet.

Ever wanted to take a peek inside a Beauty Editor’s bathroom? Well this is kind of the next best thing. In this week’s beauty-themed Healthy-ish Podcast episode host Felicity Harley quizzes Beauty Editor Kelsey Ferencak on her daily routine and the products she uses on the reg.

*So a little disclaimer before we start – obviously for my job I have to try a lot of products, but I try to stick to a routine and sub in products that fit into that routine every so often. Here is a rundown of that routine, with some product recommendations and products I’m currently loving.

Felicity: Let’s start with first thing in the morning, what do you reach for and why?

Kelsey: In the morning I cleanse with an oil or cream cleanser in the shower because I work out first thing – if I don’t work out I won’t cleanse I’ll just use water or a reusable pad or posh cloth. Then I apply a Vitamin C or B serum, a moisturiser and then an SPF 50+.

La Roche Posay Anthelios Fluid SPF 50 $25.49 at Chemist Warehouse

Felicity: Talk us through your make-up go-tos…

Kelsey: I don’t generally wear a lot of makeup because I can’t be bothered and I’d prefer to let my skin breathe. But if I had a meeting or work event during the week it would be concealer, brow gel and mascara – I have a lot on rotation and generally think the pharmacy and supermarket brands are best.

A tinted lip balm and a cream blush stick do wonders, too. I like super-natural, no-makeup-makeup but this still covers up any imperfections, gives my skin some glow and dewiness and frames my face by defining the eyebrows and eyes.

Felicity: How do you mix up the beauty products you use throughout the day depending on whether you’re work from home or out and about?

Kelsey: I’m pretty lowkey. If I’m working from home I don’t put on anything, maybe a serum and an SPF but I try to just leave my skin alone. I will slather on a body oil and marinade in it all day and even a hair treatment, though.

Otherwise, I’ll wear a lip balm with an SPF in it. For fragrance I always spray it on my clothing not my skin. I like heavy, unisex ouds from brands like Le Labo, Byredo, Diptyque, Comme des Garcons and DS & Durga.

Sunscreen on any limbs exposed and the backs of my hands. And I wear natural deodorant, Akin or Weleda roll on are my favourites, they each have 24 hour clinical protection.

Felicity: Back into your bathroom again, what goes on your skin at night?

Kelsey: Of a night time I cleanse with a balm or oil before removing with a posh cloth. Every other night I’m currently exfoliating with Biologique Recherche Lotion P50, then I’ll apply a corrective serum, a Vitamin A product followed by a face oil or thick moisturiser depending on how my skin is feeling – or they may have vitamin A in them – working around that routine with key ingredients as the focus.

I have recently started re-using eye cream. I’ve been told many times you don’t need it, but I had a VISIO scan the other week and I could see lots of dehydration lines around my eyes so have decided to give it a go again. Stay tuned.

Body products are my real passion and I think we often can’t be bothered or don’t have enough time to look after the skin below our chests. But this is where I shine. I love to dry body brush before bathing and every other night I’ll give my body a really good gentle exfoliation with a scrub or a Turkish silk glove. Every second night I dermaroll and apply a body serum before slathering my whole body in oil. You won’t find me not covered in oil post 7pm.

I like to use a lymphatic drainage massage tool, too. It’s like a big gua sha and use that on my body. On Thursday night’s I’ll apply tan in the warmer months, this one gives a really natural glow.

Felicity: Finally, what is the most important thing you do for your skin each week?

Kelsey: Great question! Protect it from the sun, keep it oiled.
